Pages

Pages.

I need to be writing pages.

My professor said to keep writing and then he said, “Write pages.”

He asked how long I had been writing and I said for a while. It’s hard to pin it down. I told him I write a blog, as I know many people do. It’s practice. He asked how long and I said for 6-7 years, fairly regularly.

He nodded. “Write pages – and submit. Submit old stuff, new stuff, just keep doing it.”

“I need to be writing more,” I said tonight in my mind, in my heart.

I texted a friend and she said, “It’s ok, A lot going on. Do what you can when you can.”

I stated 300 words – I don’t even know what that means. A good quality 300 words, period, in a week perhaps. If I say 300, more than likely I will do 600. Start small, grow.

I listened to Gary Vaynerchuk or Gary Vee on the way home. And every time I listen to him, his persistence of cutting through the crap and stop doubting yourself magnifies.

Today he posts, “Just fucking do it already. Got it?”

I have a friend who is super talented and creates layered and adorned cards and journals – I don’t know the correct wording to describe her gorgeous work. She has an Etsy store and has been doing well, phenomenal, and she has been studying and listening to these ladies she follows. In the grind of her mind, she is thinking about doing a Youtube channel. Do it. Just fucking do it.

I started to submit my work. Old stuff, new stuff. I have also check-out more journals, one is Agni which is a journal out of Boston University, and another journal Ploughshares out of Emerson.

People are working and writing and submitting in real-time. As I need to be on all accounts.

I said to my friend, “Maybe you can be an accountability writer friend! Even if I write 300 words.”

She said, text me “300 or 300+”

You just have to try.

This is three hundred and thirty words about – see goes by fast.

I enjoy this blog because it reaches people that I had no idea. The readership has grown as the length of the age range of readers – and I am very aware of that and thankful for that.

It also grounds me and it helps with my voice and allows me to play with words, beyond my writings at home.

And by stating that I am going to write 300 words, possibly 600 words+ – in whatever time frame I decide or needs to be – as one author often mediates, clears her mind before she sets down her pen to paper. See what comes.

By saying this – I will do it.

Cut the crap and do it. Real work creates real goals –

See your goal and do it, do it – right.

For me:

Pen and paper;
Real writing in real-time;
Pages;
Fucking do it.

And pause.

Here is a lovely poem I came across in Agni –

The Gate

         for my mother

Once I saw her walking in the evening through the field
near Allens Pond her hair the color of salt hay
arms thin and brown swinging at her sides as if she knew
where she was going and what called her
only later that same summer when the dahlias had come up
fast blooming all of a moment as they do
I realized she was gone from me
across that field through the unpainted gate
that swung inward
she was gone and the hay had been kicked over
spread to sun and the swallows, their nesting done,
flew wild over the marshes weaving things unseen
through smooth wet light
their wings like blades to the sky
while down below the pond lay still
skinned back at the end of day to its own
bone-lit darkness
I could just see her footsteps
still left in the grass
hollow places
where her soft weight had pushed down

Much love. Take care of your friends and family, and be kind to everyone you meet – even when you have to inhale and exhale in bigger strength. Keep at it and thank you.
